Patients Medical Records

In addition to written records on all out patients, we also use a computer system which is a valuable tool in the way we practice and with our work in managing diseases, prescribing and preventative medicine. All patient data is secure and confidential and we are registered under the Data Protection Act 1998. All staff who have access to medical records are obliged to observe strict rules of confidentiality. Records are used by the NHS for financial audit purposes and for anonymised research to monitor and improve health care. We are continually striving to improve our clinical care of patients, at times other health care professionals help us with this and will access to your records. If you would prefer your records not to be accessed in this way please advise us in writing.

Zero Tolerance Policy

We are here to look after you in both good and bad times, however we will not tolerate violence or abuse either physical or verbal. Violent patients will be reported to the police and removed from our patient list. Incidents of abuse will be recorded and if repeated, patients will be asked to find another Doctor.

We will respect yours rights and responsibilities, so we ask that you respect ours!

Named GP

The practice has allocated all existing and new patients to a named GP who will be responsible for their overall care at the practice, in accordance with NHS England requirements.

Patients are not limited to their allocated GP and can request to see any GP within the practice, and we will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate this request.

If a patient does not wish to have a named allocated GP, they are asked to advise the practice in writing, so that this can be recorded in their records.

If a patient wishes to know who their allocated GP is, we encourage them to contact the practice.

Patient Satisfaction Survey 2017

View the results of our latest Patient Survey:

Patient Survey Methodology
  • The patient satisfaction survey is undertaken during the months of November – February each year, the busiest period in the practice in order to get the views of the widest possible range of patients.
  • The survey is conducted by members of the Patient Participation Group.
  • It takes the form of an ‘exit poll’ and patients are invited to complete a questionnaire after they have finished their consultation with a GP. From experience we have discovered that this is the most efficient way of gaining responses.
  • In order to ensure a representative sample, we collect 50 responses for each GP in the Practice.
  • The responses from the survey are collated for each individual GP, as is the demographic data to ensure that the survey is as representative a sample as possible.
  • The data is also cumulated to give a Practice-wide result, and this is shared with the Partners, the Patient Participation Group and placed on the Practice website.

GP Earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Sovereign Medical Centre in the last financial year was £57,300 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 2 full time GPs, 1 part time GP and 6 part time locum GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.

Disclaimer

NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised, and the required disclosure is shown above. However, it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgment about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.

GP Training Programme

We are accredited to undertake the training of Registrars (Drs who are fully qualified and experienced in hospital medicine and have chosen to specialize in General Practice). Registrars will work with us for a period of six or twelve months gaining experience in a wide range of medical problems, and learning how General Practice works. The Practice Trainer is Dr Puri.

As part of the training it may be necessary,  with your prior consent, to video a consultation or have the Trainer observe it. The recordings are held securely within the Practice and the only people who have access to them are the Trainer and the Registrar. The recordings are erased as soon as they have been reviewed.  Please let us know if you do not want your consultation to be recorded.
